Kabelwerk Oberspree KWO / HTW Berlin

Kabelwerk Oberspree (KWO) was one of the formative companies at the industrial site of Schöneweide. The works was founded by AEG and commenced operations in 1897. In the course of its more than 100-year history it changed ownership several times, and to this day still produces cables.

Since 2009 part of the huge site has also been occupied by the Wilhelminenhof Campus of the HTW Berlin (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin,  University of Applied Sciences). Today as then, the site thus combines production, research and innovation in the historic buildings. The position directly beside the River Spree was once a decisive location factor for industry. Today students relax there between lectures and seminars, enjoying the view over the unique industrial landscape of Oberspree.
