Historic Overhead Transmission Line in Moabit
The historic overhead line between Moabit and Charlottenburg shaped the skyline of both boroughs with pylons up to 45 metres tall. Already in 1928 it connected Moabit heat and power station with Charlottenburg power station. Until it was dismantled in 2013, this was the oldest surviving overhead line in Berlin. It had been renewed by the operating company in the mid-20th century, but now it had to be laid underground to satisfy increasing demand and stricter environmental requirements.
Incidentally, the first overhead line in Berlin was constructed as early as 1918, to supply Berlin households. Now as then, the electricity grid is subject to continuous change.Write a comment
